This wooden icon is a copy of our Lady of Sorrows, also known as the Virgin of the Seven (7) Sorrows.  As typical for this icon, the seven sorrows are represented by swords piercing Mary's heart.

The Seven Sorrows (Dolors in Latin) are events in the life of the Virgin Mary.  They are:

1. Simeon's Prophecy over the Infant Jesus. (Gospel of Luke 2:34)
2. The Flight into Egypt of the Holy Family. (Gospel of Matthew 2:13)
3. The Loss of the Child Jesus for Three Days. (Luke 2:43)
4. Mary and Jesus meeting along the Way of the Cross. (Luke 23:26)
5. The Crucifixion,  (Gospel of John 19:25)
6. The Descent from the Cross, where Mary receives the dead body of Jesus in her arms. (Matthew 27:57)
7. The Burial of Jesus. (John 19:40)

This icon measures 4 1/2 inches x 5 1/4 inches.  Its image of the Lady of Sorrows is a high quality offset print.  It has gold painted ornamental imaging printed over wood.  To use this icon in a traditional manner, do not hang it but place it on a shelf on the right side of the room as you enter.
