This style was used in Christian, Jewish and pagan homes from about 200 AD to 300 AD and was generally found in Samaria, now a part of Central Palestine. While descriptions of the lamps that were used are not in the Bible, these lamps were found in caves, tombs, and archaelogical digs in the area. Styles of lamps sometimes differed from region to region due to the individual preferences of the potter and the area. Olive oil was used as the fuel for lighting and is recommended to be used today. The lamp is functional and may be used today just as it was 2000 years ago; to bring light out of darkness.
Each lamp was made in Israel. 3 wicks are included with the purchase of the lamp but any unbleached cotton fiber may be used. The lamp burns for a few hours with each filling. Design imprint may be different from one shown in picture but all lamps are 3" in diameter. Some examples of imprints are leaves, whorls, and suns.
